| * The Beskalan Putri from the
district of Malang in East Java is a dance that was
originally performed by women. However during its
development at the time when other dance/theater forms
were born, this dance was performed by men. This dance has
spiritual/sacred functions (to bring rain, conduct
exorcisms, circumcision ceremonies, etc) as well as
entertainment qualities (to open other performances such
as traditional theater Lerok and Ludruk). |

influenced by a number of different cultures such as
China, India, the West, etc. This dance presents five
different characters with the use of masks and a comedic
style of movements. The music that accompanies this dance

represents a medley of three dances: * Dwi Muka
Jepindo - is a dance that portrays two different
characters. The artistic presentation of this dance is a
fusion between two cultures and strong traditional dance
styles: Japan and Indonesia. Using masks, Didik Nini
Thowok blends comedic movements that have become a
specialty of his style. * Bali - is a dance
segment taken from the classical legong Bapang repertoire
by master teacher Saba. *Topeng Walang Kekek
– expresses several different female characters with
masks and comedic movements. |
